SimuLingua Holds First Monthly Consortium Meeting

The SimuLingua consortium convened online on 11 August for its inaugural monthly progress meeting, bringing together all nine partner organisations. With the project now at Month 3, the meeting marked the transition from start-up into full technical execution across the work packages.

Governance and Project Management

The consortium formalised a standing monthly meeting on the second Tuesday of each month — a forum for partners to report progress, raise issues, and align on direction. The project is well ahead of its delivery schedule: the first deliverable and milestone are due this month, with the management cluster (project handbook, data management plan, and dissemination strategy) following at Month 6. The first substantial technical outputs — the ontology, foundation model architecture, and use case definition — are expected by Month 12.

Work Package Progress

• Data Orchestration and Knowledge Graph (WP4): Led by TUE, this work package will onboard two new researchers in September, one with direct experience in knowledge graphs. TUE and KTH will jointly handle data quality and ingestion, while the University of Sheffield feeds decades of experimental data into the pipeline.
• Foundation Model Architecture (WP7): Also led by TUE, substantive work begins once the postdoctoral researchers are in place. This package focuses on the core AI architecture with fewer cross-partner dependencies.
• AI-Accelerated Simulation and Surrogate Models (WP10): Led by Flowphys AS, work is underway to enhance phase-field, melt-pool, and thermomechanical simulators — making them faster and more feature-rich — before moving towards acceleration through physics-informed neural networks.
• Use Case Definition and Validation (WP13): Led by the University of Sheffield, this inherently time-intensive package will establish exactly what is tested, which materials are involved, and how the validation framework operates. Early activity is critical to identify gaps whilst there is still time to find alternatives.

Website and Dissemination

The Agency of European Innovations, together with the coordinator, has launched the official project website. Partners are currently reviewing all sections — from work package and use case descriptions to the general introduction to AI foundation models in science.

Next Meeting

The second monthly consortium meeting will take place on Tuesday, 8 September 2026, online, followed by the AI tools workshop. Work package leaders will present detailed progress slides.
